The Myth of the Perfect LightWarrior

In these first few LightWarrior.Pro blog posts, I wanted to share some of my recent insights about the lightwarrior journey and concept, through my personal experience and exploration.

This past week, I had a short (but sweet) conversation with Silal of your.company, who is here in Crete supporting my friend Maria’s Synchronicity Lab.

After talking about the commonalities in our work and clients, she asked me one simple question:

“What types of people do you and your clients look up to - aka what ‘lightwarrior’ role models do you look to for inspiration?”

I gave it some thought and realised that although many aspects of different people inspire me, I couldn't name a specific person as my one source of inspiration. For example;

  • I’m inspired by the depth and clarity of some of my favourite authors’ books (Love + Work by Marcus Buckingham, for example).

  • I’m inspired by my partner Robbie’s love and openness toward his friends and family.

  • I’m inspired by the strength and athleticism of some of the fitness trainers I follow on Instagram.

  • And I’m even inspired by Beyonce’s music, success and creative genius!

Silal also shared that she and her clients also struggle to identify such role models. This was puzzling to me, so I was curious to explore this deeper.

Inner + Outer Inspiration

I realised that when I think of what inspires me, I am influenced by both:

  1. Outside of myself (other people): what I perceive in people around me, both in my personal life and people I follow online.

  2. From within/from my imagination: for example, I see this in my fitness and desire to reach my ‘genetic potential’. And the same goes for my business, career, creativity, etc.

This raised a few questions:

  • Why is it that I cannot think of one single source of inspiration?

  • Am I idealising the concept of a ‘lightwarrior’, to the extent that no one can actually fulfil that image?

  • What are the aspects of others that inspire us? And how can they help us navigate our own lives?

  • What are those aspects of ourselves that also inspire us? Are they idealised (and imaginary) goals, that we hope we can still bring to reality? Or are they more complex aspects of us yet untapped, like our genetic, spiritual, creative or financial potentials?

Through this exploration, a simpler question emerged:

“What truly inspires me?”

The answer to that is also simple: what inspires me the most are witnessing people in their creative power, in their genius and magic, doing what they love. Witnessing people (myself included) sharing their gifts - now that is something that turns me on!

Uncovering Our Myths

I believe that reflecting on our sources of inspiration, and how they are shaped by our perception of ourselves and of others around us, is a crucial part of this journey. It can help us to acknowledge certain limitations in our minds; a myth, an ideal that a part of us strives for - yet can never be fulfilled.

The concept of the ‘lightwarrior’ can inspire us to live with purpose, courage and compassion; however, it’s also important to recognise that it may never be fully realised in any one person, including ourselves. Instead, it can become a way of life and showing up with all of our flaws, imperfections, beauty and gifts; doing our best with the hand that we’ve been dealt, open and curious to this journey of life and service.

Perhaps what we can learn from this is that it’s not so much about finding a perfect role model, but instead about recognising and embracing the aspects of ourselves - and of humanity - that inspire us. Perhaps it’s about being open to various sources of inspiration, both within ourselves and others, and slowing down enough to appreciate and even celebrate them.

Instead, we can allow ourselves to witness the greatness of humanity, and allow this to propel us forward.

As we let go of our inner myth of perfection, we allow our own genius to emerge. And that, right there, is far more powerful than striving to be the ideal, perfect, mythical image that only lives in our minds.

I am curious about you: what do you think? Do you have any lightwarrior role models or inspiration? What are your sources of inspiration, both within and outside of yourself? Let me know in the comments below!
